Sami Cowsert was born in Anchorage, Alaska, the fourth child of eighteen children. Her father was in the Army and they moved around a lot. Their main home was in Missouri. She moved to Florida in 1972 where she stayed until returning to Missouri in 1995. She has one daughter named Tammi for whom these stories were written.

Tammi is a little girl who befriends a magical dragon named Winston. Winston takes Tammi to far away places, introduces her to an odd assortment of his friends and helps Tammi understand some things she has trouble with while growing up. In the process, she has a lot of fun with her new friend, Winston and learns some very valuable lessons in life.

Tammi and Her Dragon, Winston, continue their adventures to far away places. Tammi meets the Tooth Fairy, some Mermaids and visits a talking volcano! She meets more of Winston's odd assortment of friends and learns some very valuable lessons in life!
